Our research centres span several departments and reflect how we collaborate with researchers from different subject areas.
The Department received a Gold Green Impact award in 2023, following a Platinum award in 2021 and Gold awards in both 2019 and 2020. We did not submit in 2022 as all attention in the Department was focused on our 50 Years of Computer Science at York celebrations, so the Gold award is a great achievement after a year-long break. We will be aiming to regain our Platinum award in 2024.
Green Impact is a United Nations award-winning programme designed to support environmentally and socially sustainable practice in organisations, and is run by Students Organising for Sustainability UK.
In 2022, we celebrated the 50th year of the Department of Computer Science at the University of York. Our Founding Professor, Ian Pyle, was appointed on 1 January 1973.
