We provide guidance and preparation to individuals ahead of scheduled interviews, and can offer media training courses to small groups. These are interactive sessions which provide a wealth of information to anyone who has had minimal contact with the media. They cover understanding how journalists work, guidance on how to handle media interviews – on television, radio or online, and how to deal with a telephone or face-to-face interview with print journalists, and advice on some of the pitfalls to avoid.
We are is currently working with Professional and Organisational Development (POD) to organise a formal programme of skills-based media training for selected senior staff, further details of which should be available shortly.
Within the Press Office we have an ISDN line for broadcast-quality radio interviews, which eliminates the need for staff to travel to radio stations either in York or further afield. The line is available for use during normal office hours, and outside those times by special arrangement. Training on the use of the line is provided.
If you're a member of staff who would like to use the ISDN line, please contact the Press Office on ext 2029 to check availability.
