Publicising events

Publicising internally

  • Posters: posters advertising the event can be posted on noticeboards in colleges and departments and the J B Morrell library.
  • University Magazine: to appear on the Events page of the University Magazine, details of the lecture should be sent well in advance to the Communications Office. The Magazine is published monthly during term time.
  • Online: the Communications Office maintains a page of public lectures on the University's website. To have the details of your lecture added, contact the Communications Office
  • Departmental newsletter: if your Department has a departmental newsletter, contact its editor to advertise your lecture.
  • Daily Info: the Students' Union distributes Daily Info to the colleges each day during term time.
  • York Extra: details of your event can be added to the Events section of York Extra, the University's internal news system.

Publicising externally

  • Posters: to attract an external audience, send a copy of your poster to the City Library on Museum Street for display.
  • Public Lectures leaflet: the Public Lectures leaflet is issued at the beginning of each term. It publicises Open Course lectures, as well as a variety of other public lectures. Details should be sent well in advance to Sarah Mitchell in the Communications Office (ext 4633, sarah.mitchell@york.ac.uk).
  • Direct mailings: if there is a specific target audience for your lecture, consider mailing fliers to a selected group of people.
