Studying Overseas during your Final Year

If you are seriously considering studying abroad in the final year it is important that your initial application through UCAS should indicate this, so that we can ensure that you receive the language training you will need before going abroad. However, you are still free to change your mind at any time up to the end Year 2, and can opt to spend the final MChem year either at York or in industrial training, or simply to switch to BSc.

What happens to your application

Your UCAS application will first be received centrally and logged by our Student Recruitment Office. They then forward your form on to us and once we receive your application we aim to make an initial assessment and confirm receipt within two days wherever possible.

Chemistry@York VLE Applicant Site

After we have received your application for one of our undergraduate chemistry programmes for entry in 2012 or 2013 you will be given access, via a user name and password to our new, distinctive VLE site called ‘Chemistry@York’.

The site has been developed specifically to form an early engagement with students during the application stage and provides a unique insight into life as a Chemistry student at York. The site addresses four key areas:

  • Application Information
  • Our Courses
  • Careers and Employability
  • Featured Items

Accreditation

All our MChem degree programmes are accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry. At York, since you can change between the MChem and BSc after starting your course, you will receive the same offer irrespective of whether you apply for a 4 or a 3 year course.
