Giving Day 2025 Raises £270,606 to support students and mental health projects at York
Posted on Wednesday 12 November 2025
Almost 1000 alumni, staff, students and supporters of York came together to raise £270,606. This incredible amount raised will go towards supporting a range of incredible projects:
- University of Opportunity: Supporting a range of projects to help students access university and thrive while they're here
- Mentally Fit York: Funding mental health projects, groundbreaking research, and mental health nursing scholarships to improve mental health among students and in the wider community.
- York Sanctuary Fund: Supporting students and academics displaced by conflict, by providing scholarships to asylum seeking students and supporting human rights defenders.
- Generation Research: Widening access to careers in STEM by providing paid internships to help students from diverse backgrounds break into the industry.
Various challenges left by generous donors meant that extra money was unlocked for each cause. Additionally, alum and longtime supporter Dr. Anthony H. Wild, made a substantial impact by offering a match donation that meant £50,000 was unlocked to provide even more support.
Those who donated also left heartwarming messages about why they gave to each cause:
“Thanks to my wonderful education at York I've taught Chemists for the past 38 years. I'm proud to support so many young people to achieve their dreams of becoming medics or scientists. Helping those with multiple disadvantages get to uni is my life's work. Happy to support York to do the same."
"Sharing my support for all those affected by conflict. May the York Sanctuary Fund provide a safe haven."
"I’m supporting mentally fit York on behalf of my niece. As a professional working in this area, I understand the value of good mental health, particularly for students who have it harder than ever."
Thanks to our incredible community, we can empower more students to access life-changing education and give them the strongest foundation for a successful career. At the same time, we’re making meaningful strides in improving mental health and wellbeing, from groundbreaking research to grassroots community initiatives.
Thank you to everyone who supported Giving Day 2025 and made it a huge success.
