Giving Day

Giving Day will be back for 2026!
Giving Day is an online 36-hour fundraising event to spread awareness and generate as much funding as possible for student support and mental health causes at the University of York. Giving Day is an inspiring, community-driven and exciting global event that unites the entire York community. Over a span of 36 hours, we reach out to current and former staff, students and alumni around the world, and our local community, and invite them to support four causes at York.
Together, we can make a transformative difference to students’ lives and drive groundbreaking mental health research. It’s truly an “all hands on deck” fundraising campaign; collaboration is key and every donation counts. Every year, the excitement of Giving Day is brought to life with the incredible effort of our students, volunteers and colleagues. We enlist the support of Giving Day Ambassadors to spread the word and generate momentum leading up to and during the event - and it works!
Our goal is to ensure that everyone feels empowered to participate. so 4th - 5th November 2026 we will be shouting loud, sharing powerful impact stories and giving everyone the chance to make a meaningful difference by supporting a cause they’re passionate about.

Make a difference today
It's amazing to watch the day unfold and see just how generous our global alumni community is. We really hope you can be part of it this year, too.
Here’s how you can get involved today:
Save the Date
One of my wonderful alumni is now doing amazing sustainability work with small businesses. As a second year student she had delays in receiving her loan, was struggling to pay for her accommodation and was skipping meals and missing classes. £30 helped her on a tough day. Now she helps others!
Giving Day Donor
Last year Giving Day raised over £322,527 to support students and mental health at York
The funds were raised through the kindness of 789 generous donors, and supported by 82 ambassadors from all over the world who championed the cause through spreading the word.
Various challenges were made possible thanks to generous donors, which meant that much needed extra funds were unlocked for each cause.Alumnus and longtime supporter Dr. Anthony H. Wild made a transformational £50,000 contribution to support our Giving Day. Of this, £25,000 was used to match donations pound-for-pound at the start of the campaign, while a further £25,000 was unlocked once we reached 750 donors in a single day.
Thanks to the kindness of those who donated, we'll be able to support more students from less advantaged backgrounds to access an education at York and thrive while here, and improve mental health in York and beyond.
Thank you to everyone who supported Giving Day 2025!
