Giving Day 2025

36
hours
4 amazing causes
Global alumni support
November 5-6 2025

Giving Day is back for 2025!

Giving Day is an online 36-hour fundraising event to spread awareness and generate as much funding as possible for student support and mental health causes at the University of York. Giving Day is an inspiring, community-driven and exciting global event that unites the entire York community. Over a span of 36 hours, we reach out to current and former staff, students and alumni around the world, and our local community, and invite them to support four causes at York.

Together, we can make a transformative difference to students’ lives and drive groundbreaking mental health research. It’s truly an “all hands on deck” fundraising campaign; collaboration is key and every donation counts. Every year, the excitement of Giving Day is brought to life with the incredible effort of our students, volunteers and colleagues. We enlist the support of Giving Day Ambassadors to spread the word and generate momentum leading up to and during the event - and it works!

Our goal is to ensure that everyone feels empowered to participate. So, from 5th - 6th November 2025 we will be shouting loud, sharing powerful impact stories and giving everyone the chance to make a meaningful difference by supporting a cause they’re passionate about.

Save the Date

5-6 November 2025 - come back and see us then!
Students & mental health causes at York need your help now more than ever!

One of my wonderful alumni is now doing amazing sustainability work with small businesses. As a second year student she had delays in receiving her loan, was struggling to pay for her accommodation and was skipping meals and missing classes. £30 helped her on a tough day. Now she helps others!

Giving Day 2024 Donor

Last year Giving Day raised over £322,527 to support students and mental health at York

The funds were raised through the kindness of 733 generous donors, and supported by 101 ambassadors who championed the cause through spreading the word.

The total surpassed the money raised from last year's Giving Day, which means more money than ever will go towards supporting vital causes at York.

Various challenges left by generous donors meant that extra money was unlocked for each cause. Additionally, alumnus and longtime supporter Dr. Anthony H. Wild, made a substantial impact by offering a match donation that doubled £100,000 of donations raised during the event.

Thanks to the kindness of those who donated, we'll be able to support more students from less advantaged backgrounds to access an education at York and thrive while here, and improve mental health in York and beyond.

Thank you to everyone who supported Giving Day 2024!

Which causes can I support?

For 2025, the University of York will be hosting its seventh York Giving Day in support of four causes. These are:

It is our ambition to be the University of Opportunity in the UK, where there are no gaps to access, success, award and progression for any student regardless of their circumstance.
To offer students from all backgrounds the opportunity to explore research and technical science roles as a career, and allow them to gain the knowledge needed to put that career plan into action.
To support students and academics displaced by conflict where it is needed the most, including providing scholarships to asylum seeking students and supporting human rights defenders.
To fund on-the-ground initiatives and groundbreaking research to improve mental health among students and in the wider community.
