Payroll Giving
Payroll Giving is a simple, effective, and tax-efficient scheme that allows any UK employee to support the University of York's vital work by donating directly from their pre-tax pay.
What is Payroll Giving?
Payroll Giving is also known as Workplace Giving and Give As You Earn (GAYE). It is a scheme run by your employer which allows you to give a charitable donation to the University of York (or any charity) tax-free through your salary. Your donation will automatically stop when you leave your employer.
What are the benefits of Payroll Giving?
Not only is it a simple way to support us, but it's also tax effective because donations are deducted before you pay tax.
If you donate £10, only £8 comes out of your net salary and the taxman pays the rest. Or if you're on a higher tax rate (40%), only £6 comes out of your net salary and the taxman pays the rest.
There are also other benefits:
- Ease - It's easy to set up.
- Privacy - We don't need your bank details as the donation will come straight to us from your salary.
- You're in charge - You can change or stop your donation at any time by contacting your payroll department.
Ask your employer if they are part of a GAYE scheme such as Charities Aid Foundation, Benevity or Charities Trust.
