The Gender Hub
Set up by the Centre for Women’s Studies, the Gender Hub is a cross-faculty network at the University of York that brings together the wealth of expertise on gender research, teaching, policy and practice within the University. We aim to foster interdisciplinary and interdepartmental collaborations, and strengthen research capacity on issues of gendered in/equalities.
The Hub includes a directory of staff and PGRs from across the university who are working on gender and related issues, sharing information on events and activities, including ‘Gender Hub’ seminars, with members.
It's a place to nurture, promote and showcase research and teaching on gender at York, and from this foundation to create partnerships beyond the University too.
We seek to foster academic and non-academic partnerships both in the UK and internationally.
The Gender Hub was launched in 2024 as part of the Centre for Women’s Studies 40th anniversary celebrations. The inaugural event was a symposium ‘Imagining the Future of Feminism in the Academy’ with panels and presentations on:
- Feminist Pedagogy
- Feminist Research
- Women and Leadership
- Feminist Activism in the Academy
In 2025, supported by the York-Maastricht partnership, ‘lightning talks’ were held between members of the Gender Hub and colleagues in the Centre for Gender and Diversity at Maastricht University, to explore potential research collaborations between gender researchers at the two universities.
