Resources for leaders and managers

As a leader or manager, you'll play an important part in preparing your department for the new ways of working that the HR and Finance Transformation Programme will bring about.

In practice, this will mean using existing meetings, 1-1s and briefings to cascade key messages about the transformation; identifying potential Change Advocates to help understand and interpret any changes to processes; making sure your Change Advocates have capacity for core activities as part of the Change Network; and encouraging your department to feed back questions or challenges through your Change Advocate.

Identifying potential Change Advocates

Consider who is a confident communicator and problem-solver across the teams and communities within your department – or who might benefit from growing those skills. We're keen for the Change Network to have representation across all roles and grades, and for it to be an invaluable opportunity for peer support and development.

If you identify someone – or if someone tells you they'd like to represent your department – find time to discuss it together. Ask them what they'd want to give and gain as a Change Advocate; how their workload could accommodate the core 90 minutes a month of involvement; and how they could share updates and feedback to and from your department.

When you've agreed, encourage them to nominate themselves. We'll take care of the onboarding and monthly catch-ups, and continue to brief you about the latest messages for you and your Change Advocates to share.

The commitment

The transformation will play out in various cycles of testing, training and embedding until the summer of 2027, so Change Advocates will have the opportunity to be involved in different activities at different stages.

If, down the line, your Change Advocate needs to step down from their involvement, that's completely okay. We can remove them from any channels, and work with you to identify someone else to take their place if needed.

The Change Network is also a legacy for the future. We'd love to take what we learn from working with Change Advocates beyond this transformation, carrying forward their successes as a community into future programmes.
