Professor Jonathan Van-Tam is a doctor and public health specialist with extensive expertise in emergency medicine, anaesthesia, and infectious diseases, particularly focusing on respiratory viruses and pandemics.

He is currently serving as the Senior Strategy Adviser to the University of Nottingham School of Medicine, and has also been Pro Vice-Chancellor. 

He was previously the Deputy Chief Medical Officer in the Department of Health and Social Care, where he played a crucial leadership role during the Covid-19 pandemic. His efforts in orchestrating the acquisition and distribution of vaccines and antiviral drugs in the UK were pivotal.

In recognition of his exceptional contributions to public health, Professor Van-Tam was honoured with a knighthood in 2022. Additionally, his commitment to science communication was acknowledged with the Royal Society’s Attenborough Award and Lecture in 2022, highlighting his outstanding public engagement in the field.
