Transit insurance
When property is in transit to and from the University, a transit insurance application form needs to be completed:
This is for goods belonging to the University or for which it is responsible. It is for:
- a maximum in any one sending in respect of postal sendings £1,000
- single and return journeys within the UK
- single and return journeys abroad
Standard cover is for transits starting or ending in the UK. Transits starting from outside of the UK must be referred at least two weeks prior to shipping/posting and may be subject to an additional premium, chargeable to the department.
The transit policy excess is £350.
All transits totalling over £250,000 must be declared to insurance-enquiries
The following items are not automatically covered and will need approval prior to transit:
- Jewellery
- Precious stones or precious metals
- Bullion
- Furs
- Curiosities, eg ornamentals
The policy excludes equipment taken in hand luggage and transits to, from or within any of the listed excluded destinations. For any transits to these locations please refer to insurance-enquiries
