Leavers! We really need those books back...

News | Posted on Thursday 1 June 2023

If you're an undergraduate or postgraduate about to leave the University, first of all: huge congratulations! Second of all, please return all the items you have on loan from the library, by June 23rd.

A student reads a book someone else was nice enough to return...

If you have any trouble getting your items back to us by that date, please just get in touch with us so we can plan what to do. For example if it's a popular book with lots of people waiting to use it, we may buy additional copies if we know there will be a delay. You can speak to us by email, phone, Chat, or in person at our Help Desks.

How to return items in person

You can always return your items in person using the Book Return Point in the main Library, which is available 8am to midnight every day, or at one of the following book drop locations on campus:

  • Outside the Morrell Library (to the right of the main entrance doors): available 24/7
  • Inside the Ron Cooke Hub: available 24/7
  • At King’s Manor Library using either the book drop outside the Library entrance: available 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, and 9am to 5pm on Saturday; or the self-service return point inside the Library reception area: available 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday

We will remove the items from your account when we next empty the book drop.

How to return items by post

Anyone is welcome to return their Library items by post and we will pay for the postage costs! You can post items to us both from within the UK and outside it. We've put all the details on our website; there's a lot of detail so rather than reproducing it all in this News item, here's a link for all those wishing to post the books home to us.

Come back and see us: you can still access the library

Once again congratulations on graduating and completing your York journey. Come back and see us any time! As Alumni you're always welcome in the library
