The Department of Language and Linguistic Science has ranked highly in the Times and Sunday Times University Guide 2025. It placed 5th for the subject of Linguistics, 10th for French and 9th for Iberian Languages. The ranking recognises the quality of our courses, and the experiences and opportunities they provide to our students.

New research on the gender gap in the Spanish Wikipedia: an interpretative phenomenological analysis of solidarity amongst female Ibero-American translators
Dr Gustavo Góngora-Goloubintseff, Associate Lecturer in our department, has co-authored a paper with Dr Néstor Singer (Universidad de Santiago de Chile) that investigates the gender gap on Wikipedia, the world’s largest encyclopaedia.

Our Director of Professional Language Learning, Dr. Eloísa Monteoliva García, made a presentation last February 8th as part of the LeCTIS Seminar Series organised by the Centre for Translation and Interpreting Studies, University of Leicester. The talk was titled: “Stand-by Interpreting in Police Interviews: Negotiating Role(s) and Participation”.
