The Department of Language and Linguistic Science has ranked highly in the Times and Sunday Times University Guide 2025. It placed 5th for the subject of Linguistics, 10th for French and 9th for Iberian Languages. The ranking recognises the quality of our courses, and the experiences and opportunities they provide to our students.

The results of the 2024 National Student Survey have revealed the strengths of The Department of Language and Linguistic Science in French studies, Iberian studies and linguistics.

After months of diligent study, the students enrolled in the LfA Japanese Elementary Course 23-24 proudly showcased a brief summary of their accomplishments on 29th April (Group 2) and 1st May (Group 1), marking a significant milestone in their learning journey.

Our Director of Professional Language Learning, Dr. Eloísa Monteoliva García, made a presentation last February 8th as part of the LeCTIS Seminar Series organised by the Centre for Translation and Interpreting Studies, University of Leicester. The talk was titled: “Stand-by Interpreting in Police Interviews: Negotiating Role(s) and Participation”.
