Careers in TESOL and Translation & Interpreting
Event details
On Friday, 6th February 2026 the Department of Language and Linguistic Science will host an event of Careers in TESOL and Translation & Interpreting. This event aims to provide students with information about different career paths in English language teaching and in the language services industry. It will also include a presentation of our MA degree programme in Interpreting, Translation and Applied Technologies and our CertTESOL course.
The event’s guest speakers are:
James Chantry, Programme Leader of the CertTESOL at the University of York, will present details about the CertTESOL programme: its philosophy, structure, entry requirements and admissions process. A former LLS student and graduate of the CertTESOL course will also join us via Zoom to highlight the benefits of taking this course.
Gustavo Góngora-Goloubintseff & Nathaniel Elcock, Programme Leaders of the MA in Translation and Applied Technologies and the MA in Interpreting, Translation and Applied Technologies at the University of York, respectively, will present details of these postgraduate courses and will be available to answer questions from the audience.
Kirsty Mews, Careers Consultant for Arts and Humanities at the Careers and Placements Team, will provide general information and advice on careers and postgraduate study around matters including writing a personal statement, financial aspects, as well as individual aspirations.

The event is open to all students of the LLS department from any year or degree, but we particularly encourage Languages students in their final year to come along.
