Blood and Radical Politics

A Department of History academic was one of the organisers of a workshop on the links between blood and radical politics held at the queer cooperative club Wharf Chamber in Leeds on Tuesday 27 November.

On the eve of World AIDS Day, Dr Jesús Sanjurjo, Lecturer in Latin American history, Professor Richard Cleminson (University of Leeds), RJ Arkhipov (poet and essayist, author of Visceral: The Poetry of Blood), and Dr Juan Pedro Navarro (University of Murcia) explored the polysemic nature of blood and its ties with notions of family, pureness, violence and stigma.

This workshop was sponsored by the Universities of Leeds and York. A second event on this theme will take place in London in spring. If you’d like to participate, please contact jesus.sanjurjo@york.ac.uk for more information.
