Information for Academic Visitors

The Department of History welcomes Academic Visitors from outside the UK who wish to pursue independent research at the University. Information on the application process and other arrangements can be accessed via the web pages below:

  • Visiting Scholars: this route is for visitors who are registered / prospective students at universities outside the UK.
  • Visiting Fellows: this route is for visitors who are employed as academic or research staff at other universities outside the UK.

Please note that coming to York as an academic visitor does not enable you to access either regular academic supervision or credit transfer.

If you require academic support for your studies/research while in York, or the opportunity to study modules for credit, please apply as a Visiting Student which would require you to meet the University and Department admissions criteria for Undergraduate or Postgraduate students. If your application were to be successful, you would be required to pay full student fees, although these can be pro-rated according to the length of your visit.
