The Stained Glass Museum, Ely

Work with a recently acquired collection of 20th-century stained glass cartoons at the Stained Glass Museum, in Ely Cathedral.
Applications for 2025/26 are open until Monday 19 January 2026, 12pm GMT
The Stained Glass Museum, located in Ely Cathedral, holds a nationally significant collection of stained glass and related artworks, tools and materials, from the medieval to contemporary period.
The Stained Glass Museum also has a specialist library. The museum's vision is to be the national centre for enjoying and understanding stained glass through storytelling, creativity and research. Each year around 25,000 people from all over the world visit the museum gallery.
This MA Student Internship will give the student an opportunity to work with a recently acquired collection of 20th-century stained glass cartoons (1:1 scale preparatory drawings for windows). It will provide first-hand experience in collections handling, documentation and cataloguing to spectrum 5.1 standards, as well as collections care, packing and storage. Working with the support and advice of our small collections team, opportunities will be made for the student to carry out some research into an aspect of the collection that interests them, and to interpret this to the public by curating a small exhibition.
The studentship will take place for three consecutive weeks in June/July 2026. At least two weeks will be spent on site at the museum in Ely. Accommodation in Ely will be provided. The student will receive a bursary of £1,000 to cover travel, subsistence and other expenses.
