Pathway: MA in the History of Art (Architectural History & Theory)

Why did you choose this programme/pathway to study?

Because it allowed me to focus on an area of Art History that I was particularly interested in and come out with a degree that highlighted this.

Why History of Art, and why York?

After completing my undergraduate degree at York, there was nowhere else I wanted to be for an MA. The reputation and access to medieval architecture here is truly incredible and the university’s vicinity to the Minster is a huge source of inspiration in my research.

What skills have your postgraduate studies allowed you to develop?

I have benefited hugely from a studentship programme with Doncaster Mansion House. I have recently completed organising and compiling the material for an exhibition on the architect and his works. This has involved working closely with a team in Doncaster and completing the work alongside my modules. It has been invaluable, improving my abilities in team work, managing a busy schedule and providing a professional, quality product for the public.

How do you plan to use your History of Art MA and the skills you've learned in the future?

It is my ambition to use the skills I have acquired at York to move forward into a career in heritage management. The critical and organisational skills that History of Art has equipped me with will be of upmost importance in this role.
