PhD students Martha Cattell and Kyveli Lignou-Tsamantani will introduce a screening of Liquid Traces: The Left-to-Die Boat Case (2014) directed by Charles Heller and Lorenzo Pezzani (Forensic Oceanography), a film offering a reconstruction of events when 72 passengers departed from the Libyan coast on a small rubber boat heading for the island of Lampedusa.  Left to drift for 14 days in NATO’s maritime surveillance area, only nine people survived.

The film was produced within the framework of Forensic Architecture, who have been nominated for this year's Turner Prize, with the support of the House of World Cultures (HKW).

This special Festival screening anticipates the exhibition Refuse/Refuge at York Art Gallery, co-curated by Martha and Kyveli, which will run from 20 July to 16 September 2018.  Book your free ticket.
