7th in the UK: Complete University Guide 2026
York is ranked 7th in the UK for history of art, architecture and design in the latest release of the Complete University Guide league tables (2026).

This week, we maintained our place among the UK’s most highly regarded institutions for the subject of history of art, architecture and design. York ranked 7th in the UK for the study of this subject in the Complete University Guide 2026.
The Department of History of Art specialises in history of art, architecture and design at York. Head of Department, Professor Michael White said, "Our programmes not only bring the art of the past and present to life but prepare our students for all kinds of experiences to follow and our teaching instils a passion for learning in our students, of whom many go on to further study. I am delighted those things are being recognised in The Complete University Guide 2026. We look forward to welcoming our next cohort of students to history of art at York very soon!”

The University of York ranked 12th overall and 8th in the Russell Group in the Complete University Guide 2026. The guide ranks 130 institutions across the UK.
In total, 15 subjects at York were ranked in the UK top 10:
