On Thursday 15 September, John Bowen was a guest on Radio 4's 'In our Time' with Melvyn Bragg, discussing George Orwell's final novel 'Nineteen Eighty-Four'.

Melvyn Bragg and guests John Bowen (York), David Dwan (Oxford), and Lisa Mullen (Cambridge) discussed George Orwell's final novel, published in 1949, set in a dystopian London.  The influence of Orwell's novel is immeasurable, highlighting threats to personal freedom with concepts he named such as doublespeak, thoughtcrime, Room 101, Big Brother, memory hole and thought police.
