League Table Success for English at York

Posted on 24 September 2019

York is rated as one of the best places in the UK to study English, in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide.

The Department of English and Related Literature has again been named as one of the UK’s most highly regarded departments for the study of English Literature. We are ranked joint second in the UK in The Times and The Sunday Times university league tables for 2020, with an overall score of 99.9 per cent.

Published annually, the Guide ranks 132 UK universities by undergraduate degree subjects according to a range of metrics. The rankings are based on official data collected by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), the National Student Survey published by HEFCE and the Research Excellence Framework 2014.

Our Head of Department, Professor Helen Smith, says: 'We're delighted to be celebrating another year of superb league table results, and to see the department continue its climb to the top. All of us here in the Department of English and Related Literature are passionate about our teaching, and our subject, and we are delighted to see our achievements, and the exceptional performance of our students, recognised in this result'.
