Horse-drawn Austen

Posted on 4 May 2018

Congratulations to PhD student Gabriella Barnard-Edmunds, who has been awarded a 4-week fellowship at the Lewis Walpole Library at Yale University.

During her stay, Gabriella will be researching among the library's collections of eighteenth-century caricatures by fashionable satirists including Thomas Rowlandson and James Gillray.

She is particularly excited to study their representations of horse-drawn carriages, which will be central to her PhD project, exploring 'Material Mobility and the Horse-Drawn Carriage in the Age of Austen'.
