Posted on 21 November 2013

The Department is delighted to announce its new MA in Poetry and Poetics, which will welcome its first intake of students in September 2014.

The Bard (detail from Blake's illustrations to Gray's Poems)

The programme will draw on the expertise of staff whose research in poetry and poetics extends from the classical period to the present day: from Homer to Heaney and beyond.  Teaching, distinctively, will take a trans-historical and cross-cultural approach.  The language of the course will be English, but students will be introduced to poetry from a range of linguistic cultures; the curriculum will be international, with translation and cultural exchange at its heart.

Seminar topics may include classical poetics, symbolism, Viking poetry, the Romantics and Victorians, poetry and art, and British, Irish and American contemporary writing.

Applications are now open for full and part-time students.
