Posted on 11 June 2013

Under the title 'Poetry and Rivers', the poet Alice Oswald along with Professor Hugh Haughton did a double-event at Senate House, University of London.

Hugh Haughton

The event, which took place on 22 May, starting with an hour-long reading by Alice, drawing on her long river poem Dart (2002). This was followed by Hugh's 2013 British Academy Warton Lecture in English Poetry, a prestigious annual event sponsored by the British Academy. This year it drew an audience of 120 people and was followed by a public reception. Hugh's lecture was part of a conference, 'Shifting Frontiers', as well as the British Academy's Literature Week 2013.

The revised text of Hugh's lecture was published in the TLS (Times Literary Supplement) on 24 May (TLS no. 5747, pp. 13-15). You can see Hugh delivering his lecture on YouTube.
