Business and Economics at York ranks in the Top 125 in Times Higher Education World University Rankings by subject, 2026

We have been ranked Top 125 in the world, and 15th in the UK, for Business and Economics in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by subject. The ranking recognises the quality of our courses, and the experiences and opportunities they provide to our students.

On this ranking Professor Michael Thornton, Head of Department of Economics and Related studies said: “I am delighted to see the University of York's strengths in the area of Business and Economics retain its recognition in the THE World Rankings. We are proud of our global outlook, high-quality research and diverse teaching expertise, which complements the vibrant, international perspective of our student community.”

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings by subject are published annually to help students choose a university course. It ranks universities by subject area in metrics including teaching, research environment, research quality, industry and international outlook.

York’s overall position

York has been ranked in the top 150 for six subjects in the THE World University Rankings by Subject 2026.

Arts and Humanities: 62nd (12th in the UK)
Business and Economics: 101–125 (15th in the UK)
Medical and Health: 101–125 (17th in the UK)
Education Studies: 101–125 (14th in the UK)
Psychology: =77 (10th in the UK)
Social Sciences: 126–150 (22nd in the UK)
