Chemistry@York achieved a highly impressive overall score of 86.1% and was ranked fifth for Chemistry in the Guardian University Guide 2013. The league table highlighted the excellent performance of The Department of Chemistry in various areas including satisfied with the course, where we ranked second, student feedback where we ranked third, and teaching, where we came joint fourth. The table also showed that we have a comparatively low student:staff ratio (of 13.4:1). Student:staff ratios compare the number of staff teaching a subject with the number of students studying it – a low student:staff ratio is treated positively in league tables.
