Posted on Wednesday 10 December 2025
This is an annual celebration of work being done around the University to tackle inequalities and create a more inclusive culture. The theme of this year’s awards was "Community without limits: celebrating our community builders".
The Chemistry Wellbeing Team was "highly commended" in the "Phoenix Award: Rising Through Unprecedented Times" category for their work supporting student and staff wellbeing. This has involved extensive collaboration between the wellbeing, disability and teaching lab teams to address challenges at the intersection of these areas. Congratulations to Lizzie Wheeldon, Stephen Cowling, Jenny Glynn, Kieran Godfree, David Pugh, Laurence Abbott and Erica Overend. Stephen Cowling was also amongst those recognised for their work as Disability Community Ambassadors in the "Bridge Builder Award" category.
Many other Chemistry students and staff were nominated for awards, including:
- Jade Richards, who received an individual nomination.
- The "STEMMing the Leaky Pipeline" group, represented by the current group leaders Amy Farmer, Charlotte Stapleton and Phin Petherick, who were nominated for their excellent student-led community building activities reinforcing a sense of belonging in underrepresented individuals.
