Mass spectrometry service

The departmental mass spectrometry service provides a dedicated, full-service resource. It covers a range of different capabilities (for example, EI, FI and LIFDI) depending on your sample requirements. 

The service works alongside the Centre of Excellence in Mass Spectrometry.

What problems can we solve?

  • Structural identification of reaction products and product components, impurities, additives and pollutants
  • Structure confirmation

Technical specifications

  • Bruker compact® time-of-flight mass spectrometer:
    • Capabilities: ESI and APCI
    • MS/MS measurement option
    • Coupled to Agilent 1260 Infinity series LC system
    • Features: Automated high-throughput sample delivery
    • Provides accurate mass ESI/APCI-MS and LC-MS measurements
  • JEOL AccuTOF GCx-plus mass spectrometer:
    • Optionally coupled to Agilent 7890B GC system
    • Analyses solids, liquids and gases
    • Provides accurate mass EI measurements
    • Compound identification through comparison of EI spectra with NIST libraries
    • Additional capabilities: GC-FI and LIFDI measurements
