Posted on Monday 29 September 2025
Dr Megiddo’s research focuses on strengthening healthcare decision-making by integrating systems thinking and modelling approaches into health economic evaluation. Drawing on methods from complexity science, mathematical epidemiology, economics, and computer science, his work addresses pressing health challenges globally.
Prior to joining CHE, Dr Megiddo was based at the University of Strathclyde, where he was Chair of the Health Systems Research Group in the Department of Management Science. His earlier career included roles at the Centre for Disease Dynamics, Economics & Policy (Washington, DC), Resources for the Future, and McGill University.
He holds a PhD in Management Science from the University of Strathclyde, specialising in modelling for healthcare policy. His doctoral research received the Operational Research Society Doctoral Award, recognising the most distinguished doctoral research in operational research in the UK. He also holds an MA and BA in Economics, with a minor in Computer Science, from McGill University.
Dr Megiddo’s research portfolio spans global health, policy evaluation, health system strengthening, health system resilience, and antimicrobial resistance policy. He has pioneered methodological advances in agent-based modelling and hybrid simulation approaches for health economic evaluation, and is actively engaged in knowledge exchange with policymakers in diverse contexts. He was involved in the Disease Control Priorities project and led the creation of IndiaSim, an agent-based model of the Indian population and its utilisation of the healthcare system for this project. His collaborations include work with partners in India and Ghana, as well as with the World Health Organization, the World Bank, the Global Fund, and UK bodies such as the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE) during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Additionally, Dr Megiddo currently serves as an external health economist for the New Drugs Committee at the Scottish Medicines Consortium, is an Associate Editor for Health Care Management Science, and contributes to international health technology assessment initiatives, including the Systems Thinking Oversight Group for HITAP guidelines in Thailand.
