AAIP delighted to contribute to new UK standard on data management for automated vehicle trials
AAIP’s Dr Mark Nicholson was part of the steering group which developed this standard.
Today the BSI published PAS 1882:2021, Data collection and management for automated vehicle trials for the purpose of incident investigation – Specification. This is the first consensus standard to enable data collection and management for automated vehicle trials to support incident investigation. AAIP’s Dr Mark Nicholson was part of the steering group which developed this standard.
“Effective data management is essential for the safe introduction and adoption of autonomous vehicles,” said Dr Nicholson. “As autonomous vehicle trials take place we must be able to meaningfully investigate incidents and accidents to fully understand the technology being developed. Consistency across all organisations conducting trials will ensure that incident management and investigation is as effective as possible, enabling us to continuously improve safety.”
PAS 1882 specifies requirements for the collection, curation, storage and sharing of information during trials in the UK in relation to information collected or received by the car.
“A PAS is an effective way to flexibly respond to the advancing technology while ensuring that safety is still the highest priority,” continued Dr Nicholson. “This work will support the safe development and introduction of autonomous vehicles in the UK.”
