MA Music Education awarded Vice-Chancellor's Teaching Award 2021
MA Music Education: Instrumental and Vocal Teaching awarded the prize for their teaching team's outstanding contribution to enhancing teaching and student learning
The judging panel was impressed with the excellent contributions teaching staff have made across a wide range of learning and teaching activities in the department. The panel was also impressed with the outstanding feedback the course receive from staff and students, saying that the team is "clearly committed to the delivery of high quality, innovative teaching, engaging with and responding to students, as well as carefully reflecting on practices."
The MA in Music Education is a unique course for musicians interested in developing their instrumental and vocal teaching skills, which explores practical and theoretical concepts of music education, as well as aspects of psychology, music psychology and health. Since its inception in 2015-16, the programme has grown substantially to now have 106 students teaching a variety of instruments including Western classical, folk, popular and Chinese traditional instruments. Students from a number of countries including UK, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Romania, China, Malaysia, Taiwan, Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Ecuador and Iran have studied on the course.
Programme Leader and originator Dr Liz Haddon says: "We really value the diversity of approaches that our students bring, as well as the opportunity that this programme affords to connect to the local and wider community through providing instrumental/vocal lessons."
