Online panel discussion: Can data centres and the digital economy be sustainable?
Event details
Join us for this fascinating online talk on Tuesday 3 March, 7pm, to take a deep dive into the expansion of data centres and the opportunities we have to ensure a greener pathway.
Hosted by Professor Felicia Liu, a Lecturer at the University and an economic geographer, this talk was recently presented at Westminster and focuses on the UK’s acceleration of its ‘twin transition’ toward global leadership in digitalisation and decarbonisation.
Data centres have emerged as critical infrastructure, central to economic strategy and climate innovation, yet we know they carry a substantial environmental footprint of their own. How do we ensure that this expansion is done in the most sustainable way and what might the trade offs be?
Covering five interrelated dimensions, Felicia will highlight opportunities for data centre operators, users, investors and policymakers to align regional growth strategies with the low-carbon transition of the digital economy, and to position the data centre sector as a cornerstone of a smarter, greener, and more balanced national infrastructure.
