Today's sustainability module spotlight is the award-winning Sustainability Clinic, part of our suite of York Interdisciplinary Modules.
The Sustainability Clinic offers students the opportunity to work in multidisciplinary teams on 'live' real world projects to help local and regional organisations achieve their sustainability goals. The module is project-based, offering students experiences that can be used to enhance their CVs.
To date, over 450 students and 65 partner organisations have taken part in the Sustainability Clinic. Initially piloted as voluntary activity, in September 2023 the Sustainability Clinic launched as an interdisciplinary undergraduate and postgraduate elective module.
Last semester, student teams partnered with a wide range of local, regional, and national organisations, including the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, The Rugby Football League, Explore York Libraries and Archives, York Minster, Hollybank Trust, and North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
Student projects focused on a wide range of sustainability topics, including biodiversity and species conservation; education; sustainable business, policy and regulation; and heritage and culture.
In November 2023, the Sustainability Clinic won a prestigious Green Gown Award for its work in student engagement. The Clinic now progresses as a finalist for the international awards as a regional winner!
This interdisciplinary module is a collaboration between Environmental Sustainability at York (ESAY), Careers and Placements, the Baroness Hale Law Clinic and York Environmental Sustainability Institute (YESI).
