Student Spotlight: Ebba's placement year with York Cares

We love sharing stories about what our current students are doing to enhance environmental sustainability at the University of York and beyond. Ebba Wadlan, currently studying Politics and International Relations with Placement Year, is enjoying her placement year with York Cares as a Volunteering Support Officer with particular focus on sustainability.

We asked Ebba to share more about what she hopes to achieve during her placement year.

Tell us about your placement year. What will it involve?

Within my placement year I will be leading the environment and sustainability programme at York Cares. This role entails connecting employers with community partners to help improve, maintain and revitalise green spaces in York. I’ll be working with 34 employers in York to help over 30 sites that are in need of volunteers. These opportunities are a fantastic way of not only giving back to your community but also improving your own wellbeing.

What are you looking forward to the most about your placement year?

I am looking forward to helping organise our environment and sustainability week as well as our Big Community Challenge. Although the Big Community Challenge will be held after I leave, I’m excited to work with our community partners and work towards a bigger cause that will improve the environment as well as our community. I am also looking forward to working on smaller projects which will positively influence York in big ways.
