Celebrating World Climate Day with a Climate Fresk workshop

News | Posted on Friday 8 December 2023

On Wednesday, we were joined by 26 staff and students for another brilliant climate science workshop.

Today is World Climate Day! On Wednesday, we delivered another brilliant Climate Fresk workshop to staff and students in the Church Lane Building on Campus West.

Climate change is one of the biggest challenges facing our planet today, and it's more important than ever that we take action to address it. Our latest Climate Fresk workshop brought together 26 staff and students from our University to learn about the causes of climate change and how we can take collective action to make a difference.

Through a 3-hour interactive card game, we explored the different causes and effects of climate change, using facts from the IPCC reports. The workshop generated some insightful and positive conversations, along with opportunities for community building.

Ideas generated

Our participants came up with an empowering list of ideas on how to take action to tackle climate change. Here are examples of 10 ideas generated from the workshop:

  1. Clothing and utensil circular economy bank for international students.

  2. Greater transparency and accountability.

  3. Use alternative energy sources.

  4. Support nature based solutions.

  5. Talking to others about small changes you can make.

  6. Create green infrastructure.

  7. An Indian/Asian food snack station in the evening on campus for nutritious warm food, instead of very processed food which is available.

  8. No fossil fuel sponsorship.

  9. Change mindsets.

  10. Support minimalist lifestyles.
