However much information is available to us through the internet, there can be no electronic substitute for direct physical contact with the material of music – instruments, studio equipment, scores and printed music. The age of the i-timpani and i-music-stand is still some way off. So in the meantime, studying music requires extensive physical resources, and we are happy that at York the student or researcher can find most of the essential material required.
