York Early Music Press

The York Early Music Press, known as YEMP, was established in July 2001 in association with the Department of Music. Its goal is to disseminate high quality scholarly performing editions of music composed pre-1800. Its editors, both in-house and guest, are leading scholars in their fields. All the editions are computer set, and available as sheet music or on CD-ROM.

In addition to providing performer-friendly editions available in various formats (e.g. with or without a blank line above a figured bass line for an individual's own realisation), the press offers editions with with specialised information on matters of performance including pitch, forces, pronunciation, context. All editions include information on the editorial method, commentary, and relevant performing information including scoring, original forces, pitch, context, pronunciation, translation, and composer biography.

The YEMP is associated with the Department of Music, the University of York, the Heslington Foundation and York Early Music Foundation.
