Graphic elements

Official University graphics should be used in conjunction with the University of York logo. The logo and shield can be downloaded here

Official shield

The official shield design has been developed from the original University of York crest. It can be used in a number of ways:

  1. positioned below the logo
    The shield positioned under the logo
  2. at full strength
    The shield used at full strength (black on white)
  3. as a tint on a white background
    The shield used as a 15% tint on a white background
  4. as a watermark on a coloured background.
    The shield used as a watermark (80% tint) on a dark background

of York

The calligraphic of York element from the University of York logo may be used on its own as a visual device.

It can only be used in these ways:

  1. as a tint on a white background
    The of York graphic used as a tint on a white background
  2. as a watermark on a coloured background
    The of York graphic used as a watermark on a dark background

The following must be observed:

  • It must always be proportioned at 70% of the page width.
  • The of York watermark should not be used with any other wording in the watermark style.
    The of York graphic incorrectly used with a department name also in a watermark style  
  • The 'o' in of must be flush with the page edge as indicated.
     The correct positioning of the 'of York' graphic, with the 'o' lined up with the page edge

The Crest

This is used only on formal occasions when the Chancellor is present, such as graduation.
