York Language Electives
Learning a language broadens your knowledge, boosts your employability and helps you to make unique academic connections.
Current students will choose their language electives for 2025/26 in February-March. If you are a visiting student or you are still deciding which electives to take in semester 2 2024/2025, registration remains open for the YLEs that are running and have spaces.

The opportunity to study an additional language as part of my degree programme is one of the best things about studying at York. Doing the language for credit provides extra incentive to work harder and improve.
