Prize Winning Co-produced Research by IGDC members Influences Bradford Climate Action Plan
IGDC members from the UoY's Healthy Livelihoods team in the Department of Health Sciences co-produced evidence with two communities in Bradford (from Tong and Bowling & Barkerend) which influenced the newly approved Bradford Climate Action Plan. The research, led by Dr Kelli Kennedy in partnership with Bradford Council's Sustainability Service and the Bradford Health Determinants Research Collaboration with support from The York Policy Engine, and the Valuing Voices project at York, worked with two local community partners and six local community researchers. The three-part workshops in each location led to co-produced climate manifestos - highlighting the views on climate actions from each community. All outputs, including the two co-designed illustrated manifestos and final report, can be found on the Bradford Climate Action Project 2025 webpage.
The project report and the community co-produced evidence was named in Bradford's Climate Action Plan as having influenced the direction of Plan. Based on the collaborative, interdisciplinary approach of the Bradford work. Dr Kennedy was awarded the 'Supporting citizen and professional participation' prize by the Shared Green Deal's Shared Green Societies Forum (funded by the EU Horizons programme). Kennedy highlighted the value of the project's place-based research and the success of the community climate engagement at the Forum's launch event on 28 January 2026.
