Environmental defenders across the globe are facing intensifying repression as states increasingly resort to legal and extra-legal tactics to silence protest. From strategic lawsuits and criminalisation to smear campaigns, incarceration, and even violence, activists advocating for a clean and healthy environment are under threat.

This expert panel brings together leading scholars examining the criminalisation of environmental protest in both the Global North and South. Together, they will explore how democratic and authoritarian regimes alike are restricting environmental advocacy, and what this means for the future of climate justice and civil society.

Join us for a timely and urgent discussion on the global trend towards repressing environmental activism, with insights from the UK, Europe, and Latin America.
