The Covid-19 pandemic and the climate emergency amplifies existing social vulnerabilities, calling for a need for a reorientation of values, and a reorganization of power and responsibilities. However, they may also be seen as opportunity to catalyze processes of social change, foster emancipatory knowledge and accelerate transformations. This webinar debates both crises - Covid-19 and climate - from global and local perspectives, calling for a deepening of the syndemic knowledge and recognizing the interconnection of environmental issues, health problems, socioeconomic dynamics to how they impact groups differently.

Speakers:

  • Gabriela Di Giulio (Visiting Researcher - Department of Politics - University of York; Associate Professor - Environmental Health Department - University of São Paulo)
  • Jean Paul Metzger (Full Professor - Department of Ecology - University of São Paulo)
  • Marko Monteiro (Associate Professor - Science and Technology Policy Department - University of Campinas)

Chaired by João Nunes (Senior Lecturer / International Relations - Department of Politics - University of York)
