I chose to come to York for my postgrad study because it was where I completed my undergrad degree (English). There didn't seem much point in uprooting myself for only a year, especially given the renown of the Department. I had already established good working relationships with a number of the Department's staff, and I knew from working with them already that they were helpful and supportive. They provide me with the guidance that I need to help me reach my full potential.

York is a beautiful city and I was glad of the excuse to stay another year. The range of societies offered by the University is enormous, so there's something to reflect everyone's interest and there is a really welcoming community. The Humanities Research Centre is a great space to work in, and the large amount of resources that the library lets postgrad students borrow is very helpful. I did have a look at other universities, but the depth and breadth offered by the Film and Literature MA was very appealing; I'm really enjoying it so far. I think the interdisciplinary approach that York takes to its research is very exciting, and at the moment I am considering staying for a PhD!
