James, MA in Modern Literature and Culture‎

I chose to study at York primarily because of the breadth of options on offer within the Department of English and Related Literature, specifically in my period of interest – the twentieth century. The course offers a core grounding in High Modernism, before allowing you to pursue your research in whichever direction you so wish, there will be an option which suits everyone. This system has allowed me to develop my research interests in American postmodernism, while also giving me the opportunity to study one of my personal interests – film.

The course has succeeded in satisfying my personal philosophical and academic inquiries and pursuits, as well as prompting many more.  The independence and level of study has also gone towards preparing me for a future career in teaching.

I have been fortunate enough to possess savings, as well as money from a previous gap year in which I worked, in order to pay for my studies at York.
