College Manager
Your college's operational lead. Oversees welfare issues and can talk through any of your more serious concerns if needed.
Deputy College Manager
Provides wellbeing interventions for our residential students and delivers key student experience projects on behalf of the local College and the Student Life and Wellbeing team.
College Life Coordinator
Provides welfare and wellbeing support under the guidance of the College Manager and Deputy College Manager. Delivers community interventions to make a positive difference to their members’ lives and studies through delivering events and activities.
College Life Advisor
Your College Life Advisors are students who work with the college to promote and support community activity and offer peer support for issues such as making friends, networking, and settling into student life at York. They work closely with the rest of the college team.
Where to find us
The college offices are located in N block. Enter via Derwent Reception, walk straight through D-Bar and down the steps so that you are facing the JCR, turn right past the vending machines and through the double doors, then immediately left. Walk up the stairs past the toilets, and finally through the double doors. The Administrator’s office (D/N/003) is under the stairs to your right. The College Manager’s Office (D/N/001) is through the next set of doors at the end of the corridor on your right.
Your College Manager: Dr Andrew Kerrigan
Hi, I’m Andrew, I’m responsible for the day to day running of Derwent in terms of student community building, welfare provision, and conduct. I’m also the primary contact for serious welfare issues, and oversee the work of the Administrator, College Life Coordinator and College Life Advisors. I’ve been at York since 2014, and have also lived in Italy, Spain, Germany, Poland and Greece. Having moved around so much, I know the challenges of starting out new and will do my best to help new students feel at home in Derwent.

Your College Principal: Dr Eleanor Brown
Hi, I’m Eleanor, your College Principal. I’m a Senior Lecturer and Researcher in the Education department. I work in Derwent part time, liaising with the rest of the college team and the JCR committee. I am the academic lead in the college and represent Derwent at graduations and alumni events and chair the college council. I am also a regular attendee at college events, especially our famous ceilidhs - see you there!

Your Deputy College Manager: Helen Fairburn
Hi, I’m Helen. I’m your first point of contact as a student. I run the day-to-day administration of the college, support the College Manager and liaise with our cleaners, catering, reception and Accommodation services.
If you need help with your accommodation, wellbeing, any general enquiries, or just want someone to talk to, I’ll do everything I can to put you in touch with the right person.

Your College Life Advisor: Becca Argent

Derwent Student Committee
The volunteers of the Derwent student committee are key members of the College team. They are voted in each November for a January start. You can browse our social media feeds as well as the committee noticeboard next to the JCR to find out more about them and their roles. You can also email the Committee direct on derwent@yusu.org
