York strategic leadership programme

Course overview

This course will strengthen your ability to lead successfully and motivate excellence in others. Discover ways to be a strategic communicator. Learn how to formulate and implement an effective leadership strategy to solve problems. Unlock innovation within your organisation.

You'll benefit from our exceptional teaching, which is underpinned by the latest innovations in leadership theory. You'll receive a full toolkit of the tools and techniques used in your course so you can directly apply them in your work.

Delivery

This course is taught in-person at the University of York. You'll undertake six modules, which will be delivered over two days. Teaching will last 12 days across a number of months.

Accreditation

This programme is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute. You'll have the option to gain a Level 7 award in Leadership and Management after attending each session and successfully completing all assignments.

Course content

Enhance your ability to apply strategic leadership skills, communicate with impact and deal with sensitive issues. Taught modules will give you an in-depth grasp of the principles of leadership. Modules include:

  • The Dynamic Leader
    You'll be introduced to different strategic leadership models. You'll practice your coaching in supervised sessions. Using development tools, you'll discover the nature of an optimal team.
  • Creating a culture for success
    Trained actors will use creative exercises to help you communicate with clarity. Discover unconscious behaviours and self-limiting beliefs, and the psychology behind teams.
  • Strategic Leadership
    Create a personalised strategic leadership plan with goals to turn strategy into successful performance. Explore business intelligence, diversity management and decision-making.
  • Supporting your Workforce
    Create a culture of respect and generate an effective diversity and inclusion strategy. Boost your understanding of wellbeing and the importance of stress management in the workplace.
  • Business Resilience
    Explore corporate governance and how to mitigate financial risks. Learn about ethical business practices. In interactive sessions, you'll implement change management strategies using Agile methodology.
  • Innovation and Entrepreneurship
    Use tools to generate innovation and motivate success. Through practical activities, you'll shape your  business model to improve creativity and excellence.

Tutorials and supervisions

You'll be taught in a small group with a blend of theory and practical activities. In your tutorials, you'll have the opportunity to discuss assignments with your tutor.

Our approach to teaching will provide you with opportunities and support to critically evaluate your leadership skills, with expert insights from our tutors. You'll be able to implement a leadership strategy and motivate organisational change.

Fees

Course fees include:

  • registration with and membership of the Chartered Management Institute
  • tutorials and supervisions with assigned tutors
  • provision of course materials needed to complete the programme.
  • Refreshments and lunch for all modules
