The University’s programmes for apprentices have been awarded a ‘good’ rating by Ofsted inspectors.

The University’s programmes for apprentices have been awarded a ‘good’ rating by Ofsted inspectors.

The latest Ofsted report for our apprenticeship provision highlights the quality of teaching and learning, including a well planned curriculum, good learner and employer feedback and strong governance arrangements.

The Ofsted inspection was carried out in November 2023 and we are delighted to have received a good outcome.

York currently offers apprenticeships in Health and Nursing, splitting student’s time between theory and practice.

The apprenticeship approach helps students to develop an understanding of the complexity of healthcare, as well as enhancing their abilities to analyse complex problems and make sound decisions.

We also offer a Team Leader apprenticeship for our own staff at the University, providing valuable development opportunities internally.

In their report Ofsted inspectors noted: “Apprentices demonstrate positive attitudes to learning and are acutely aware of how the apprenticeship programme will aid them in their career development. They have high levels of engagement and motivation to succeed.”

Jan Ball-Smith, Interim Head of Academic Affairs at York, said: “We are really pleased with the outcome from the inspection, which is a testament to the hard work and commitment of staff at the University. The programme teams are committed to delivering good quality degree apprenticeship programmes, which meet the needs of employers and prepare apprentices for their future careers.”

National Apprenticeship Week runs from Monday 5 to Sunday 11 February, and this year’s theme is ‘Skills for Life’. Look out for sessions to find out more about the Team Leader apprenticeship, how to develop your career using the apprenticeship levy, and how your department can offer apprenticeship programmes.
