Restriction and freedom in music performance: discussion session led by PhD student Kate Ledger

How might these two aspects to music performance be defined?
What separates one from the other?
I ask what is meant by freedom, and how do we know we are performing freely?
How might we define a restriction?
How does this manifest in a composition and what does it mean for the performer?
