Chilean composer Carlos Zamora will discuss different ways to manage and use borrowed materials. From ancient pre-Columbian musical and extramusical elements to popular music as a creative source, he will talk about how he has developed his musical aesthetics by using these materials to build his compositional voice, incorporating cutting-edge techniques, classical harmony and renaissance counterpoint

About the speaker

Carlos Zamora

Carlos Zamora graduated as a Music Teacher (University of Concepción), Composition and Master of Arts (University of Chile) and PhD (University of York). He has composed over a hundred works for all types of instrumental groups, most of them premiered, and more than 30 CDs recorded on independent, university and Naxos labels. His works have been performed on all 5 continents by important soloists, ensembles and orchestras, and he is currently one of the most programmed Chilean composers both in Chile and abroad. In addition to his composing he works as a professional conductor and composition manager, having created the National Music Publishing House and the Sinfonía Austral Agency.
